With Part 1 already out, here’s part 2.
There’s seven more games across two days left to predict, so let’s begin at the top. The first kick off on Wednesday 3rd December will be 7:30PM (GMT) and it consists of four games. Arsenal vs Brentford, Brighton up against Aston Villa, Burnley hosting Crystal Palace and Wolves facing Nottingham Forest. We then have two games that kick off at 8:15PM. Chelsea will travel to Leeds while Liverpool will face Sunderland. To finish off GW14 will be Manchester United versus West Ham United on Thursday 4th December at 8PM.
Arsenal vs Brentford
Arsenal have had a mentally draining week in the build up to this fixture. Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Chelsea all contributed to a taxing seven days of football. But, football is coming thick and fast and the Gunners will have to face more football. Despite the demanding week, the North London outfit came away with two big wins and one draw, which was away from home. They’ll be confident they can extend their lead at the top of the table, having still not lost a game since the end of August. They also have the second best home form in the league with five wins and a draw, which will be a scary prospect for Brentford to face. That is coupled with only two goals conceded.
Brentford arrive into this fixture in pretty good form, considering their start to the season. They have three wins in five games against some pretty tough competition in Liverpool and Newcastle. However, those wins came at home. In fact, of the six games they’ve won, five have come at the Gtech Community Stadium. That leaves them with just one win on the road with five defeats, it’s relegation battling form. The saving grace for Brentford is that they have one of the most inform strikers in the league. Igor Thiago has notched 11 goals already and is one of the key threats that Brentford can throw at Arsenal. But, I do think Arsenal will limit the service to Igor Thiago and that’ll nullify most of the attacking intent from Brentford. It’ll be a slow burner for Arsenal, but they’ll get the job done.
Predicted Result: Arsenal 3-0 Brentford
Brighton vs Aston Villa
Brighton had a rather mixed start to the season, having only won three in their first nine games. After GW9, Brighton won three of their next four fixtures, doubling their win total for the season. This has propelled them up the table and they now sit in fifth. Fabian Hurzeler will be delighted with the recent form and that was encapsulated at the weekend after his side beat a resurgent Nottingham Forest. They also haven’t lost at the AMEX Stadium, picking up four wins and two draws, Villa will face a real test in that regard.
Villa themselves tend to have relatively quiet away game and that can be good and bad in equal measures. They’ve scored just five goals on the road, but have only conceded six. Goals are at a premium at both ends. However, Villa’s recent form has been nothing short of exceptional. Four wins in their five previous outings, only losing to Liverpool at Anfield which can be excused, even in their state. Unai Emery will likely be happy to snatch a draw and the statistics back up that it’ll be a very even affair, even if Brighton are quite potent at home. A score draw would be a fair result.
Predicted Result: Brighton 1-1 Aston Villa
Burnley vs Crystal Palace
Burnley are in a little bit of a desperate situation and they’ll be relieved to get back on home turf, however, that hasn’t been kind to them recently either. If Scott Parker’s men were to lose tonight then it’d make five straight defeats. With teams like Nottingham Forest and West Ham United experiencing mini revivals, they need to keep up. If they don’t then they will be condemned to face the drop. The Clarets need to rely on their far superior home form, but that won’t be easy against a resolute Palace team.
Palace themselves suffered a rare home defeat at the weekend as they gave up a one goal advantage to Manchester United. Eventually losing 2-1. That defeat has left them slap bang in the middle of the table in 10th. However, a win over Burnley can see them rise to 5th, which proves just how incredibly tight the table is. Oliver Glasner will be confident about his side visiting Burnley as Palace have the fourth best away form in the league. They have also only conceded four goals away from Selhurst Park. Burnley can make this an awkward trip for Palace and they simply have no choice other than to take something from this fixture.
Predicted Result: Burnley 1-1 Palace
Wolves vs Nottingham Forest
I say this every single week, but Wolves surely have to win a game at some point. 11 defeats in 13 games is absolutely shameful for an established Premier League side. Despite defeat at the weekend, they made Villa work hard for it and they only held a 1-0. Give how high flying The Villains have been, that’s not a terrible result. But, if you lose every game 1-0 then you’ve still lost every game. They need to find a way to grab that big win. However, when you’re the team with the lowest amount of goals scored and the highest number of goals conceded, in the league, then you can’t even point to any positives in the underlying statistics.
Sean Dyche experienced his second defeat with Forest at the weekend, succumbing to a 2-0 deficit at home to Brighton. Dyche will be disappointed with that, but can take positives from the overall form of his side. They’re looking better in the league and are gaining wins in Europe. They won’t want to make it two defeats in a row and undo all the hard work they’ve been achieving since the end of the October. However, with only one win away from home, they’ll have some reservations about pulling a win out the bag. This is a big night for both of
Predicted Result: Wolves 1-1 Forest
Leeds vs Chelsea
Leeds are in a very similar boat to Burnley, in that if they lose another game then it’ll be five on the spin. Having said that, they were extremely unfortunate not to walk away with a point at The Etihad. The second half performance they put in, against a team of Manchester City’s calibre, was nothing short of extraordinary. 2-0 down to 2-2, until Phil Foden decided to ruin the party. But, confidence will be taken from that performance and they can take it back to Elland Road. The fans will like what they saw over the weekend and they can use that energy to intimidate Chelsea.
Chelsea, though, are far from a team that can be easily intimidated. The West London side are one of the most inform teams in the league and have lost just once in their last five fixtures, securing three wins in the process. They stole a draw against Arsenal at the weekend, despite being a man down, which shows how much this team is working for each other. They’ve also tightened up defensively, claiming three clean sheets in a row prior to the Arsenal game. These two sides will go at each other and it’ll be an end-to-end affair, but that suits Chelsea as they have very quick attackers who thrive on games like this.
Predicted Result: Leeds 1-3 Chelsea
Liverpool vs Sunderland
Liverpool are a surprise package this season, but more in a negative sense. It seemed like things were beginning to click before the Manchester City game, but that was unceremoniously ended by Pep Guardiola’s men. Since that defeat, they’ve shipped seven goals, with only one in reply. Forest beat them 3-0 at Anfield before PSV beat them 4-1, at Anfield too. However, they did overcome the challenge of West Ham at the weekend, with Alexander Isak breaking his Premier League duck for Liverpool. The Swedish international will be looking to add to his tally.
Sunderland are also a surprise package this season, but in a positive sense. They find themselves 6th in table, a point ahead of Liverpool. They’ve achieved this status by forcing their opponents to work extremely hard to get a goal. Only Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea and Palace have conceded fewer goals. They haven’t even sacrificed their potency in attack to deliver the previous accolade. They know their limitations, so they work harder to cover for them and sometimes that can make an opponent feel overwhelmed. My favouring still belongs to Liverpool in this tie, but this is an odd season.
Predicted Result: Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland
Manchester United vs West Ham
United seemed to slip back into their groove prior to the Everton game last Monday, but that defeat at home, to the 10 men of Everton, will haunt Ruben Amorim. But, a win at Selhurst Park over the weekend was a welcome return to form. Amorim knows his side are more than capable of turning over West Ham to maintain their winning streak. One defeat in five games for United is a good return, however, they’ve given up a couple of draws in those five fixtures.
West Ham felt like a rejuvenated side before they faced Liverpool. Two wins and a draw gave some life back to the club, but Liverpool were quick to deliver a crushing blow. However, Nuno Espirito Santo will be okay with giving up a defeat to a team like Liverpool. But, away form will be a concern though as it’s only one win on the road for the Hammers. I do think this will be a game that United will flex their muscles in, prompting a hard evening for West Ham.
Predicted Result: United 3-0 West Ham
